Climate change is the greatest global threat to coral reef ecosystems. Scientific evidence now clearly indicates that the Earth's atmosphere and ocean are warming and that these changes are primarily due to greenhouse gases derived from human activities. Warmer water temperatures can result in coral bleaching. When water is too warm, corals will expel the algae (zooxanthellae) living in their tissues causing the coral to turn completely white. This is called coral bleaching. When a coral bleaches, it is not dead. Corals can survive a bleaching event, but they are under more stress and are subject to mortality.

Coral reefs, usually known for their vibrant colors, face a stark reality in the era of global warming. Algal blooms hinder photosynthesis, resulting in coral bleaching and a fading ecosystem. This is a consequence of climate change. These once-thriving ecosystems need rejuvenation. This exhibit combines coral sounds with experimental animation, conveying the imperative of saving and restoring coral reefs and highlighting the urgency of preserving these fragile environments.
